Privacy

PairBook is a private journal for two people. This page explains, in plain language, what we store, who can see it, and how you can delete it. If anything is unclear, write to hello@pairbook.us.

The short version

• What you add is visible to exactly two people: you and the partner you paired with.
• We do not show ads, sell data, share it with data brokers, or use your content to train AI models.
• You can permanently delete your account, or your whole shared journal, at any time from inside the app.

What we store

• Account: your email address and, if you set one, a display name. We sign you in with one-time codes or links sent to that email; there is no password.
• Your journal: dates, places you add to them, notes, ratings, ideas, reminders, posts, comments, chat messages, and the photos, videos, voice notes and stickers you upload.
• Cycle tracking (optional): if you turn it on, the period dates you log and your settings. This is health-related information. It is off by default, and you decide whether your partner can see it.
• Devices: a push-notification token for each phone you sign in on, so we can notify you.
• Basic server logs: standard request logs kept for a short time to keep the service running and secure.

We do not collect your contacts, your location in the background, or advertising identifiers. Places appear on your map only because you searched for and added them.

How it is protected

• Each couple's photos, videos and voice notes are kept in a storage folder that belongs to that couple alone.
• Files are encrypted at rest (AES-256) and all traffic uses HTTPS.
• Media is never public. It is served through signed links that expire shortly after they are created, and only after we check that you belong to that journal.

PairBook is not end-to-end encrypted: our servers process your uploads (for example to resize photos and convert voice notes) so they work on every device. Access to production systems is restricted to operating the service.

Services we rely on

• Amazon Web Services hosts the app and stores your files.
• Apple and Google push services, via Expo, deliver notifications. A notification contains the text shown on your lock screen.
• Google Maps Platform answers place searches and draws routes. Your search text is sent to Google; your identity is not.
• GIPHY answers GIF searches in chat. Your search text is sent to GIPHY; your identity is not.
• Our email provider sends sign-in codes and, if you switch them on, notification emails.
• Links you add (for example Spotify or YouTube) are shown using those services' players, which may set their own cookies when played.

Deleting your data

• Individual items: deleting a photo, post, message or date also erases its stored files.
• Your account: erases your sign-in, devices, your posts, comments, messages, voice notes, thoughts, cycle data and private reminders, and their files. Dates and photos you shared in a journal stay with your partner. If you are the only person in the journal, the journal is erased too.
• The whole journal: the journal's owner can erase everything in it for both people.

Deletion is permanent. Residual copies in storage version history are purged within 7 days.

Children

PairBook is for adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and, for meaningful changes, tell you in the app before they take effect.
